SCROLL DOWN FOR NEWS LINKS AND VIDEOS: Was there an Ebola Outbreak in Italy. Talk on the web is that a hospital in Italy was quarantined and lockdown due to 40 suspected cases. There is no news coming out of Italy that the virus has broken all containment barriers, but there has been no denial of it either. The silence of the Italian Government could be an indicator that there may be some truth to the report. WHO has reported that the situation in Guinea has worsen and the death toll of the outbreak has reached over 140. There have been over 20 new cases in Conakry which is the capital of Guinea. The Virus that has reportedly caused the outbreak is a new deadly strain that is responsible for the epidemic. RT NEWS: A total of 142 deaths have now been recorded from the Ebola outbreak in Guinea and Liberia, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Researchers believe that a new strain of the virus is responsible for the epidemic in West Africa.

Guinea, which has borne the brunt of the outbreak, has reported 208 clinical cases of the Ebola virus (EBOV) and 136 deaths so-far. While neighboring Liberia has found 34 clinically compatible cases, including six deaths.

The outbreak began at the beginning of the year in the forested villages of southeast Guinea, and then appeared in the capital Conakry.

Anderson Cooper Says World Health Officials Are “Hoping Ebola Outbreak Doesn’t Go Global!”

DAILYKOS: The United Nation’s World Health Organization released new figures today for the death toll from Ebola spreading in Guinea, Mali, and Liberia today. These numbers may not look substantially higher than those from last week. The explanation is than last week Guinea reduced its count by half. Also Reuters reported a senior Guinea health official reporting that they will no longer issue death tolls to avoid causing unnecessary panic in the populations.

THE WESTSIDE STORY: The Ebola epidemic in Guinea has worsened with each day adding numbers to the disease which has one of the highest morbidity among tropical infectious diseases. WHO has released its latest Ebola Virus Update and has said that 203 new cases of the deadly disease have been identified in the West African nation.

The disease has already killed 129 people 158 persons have tested positive for the Ebola virus infection. 109 cases have been confirmed in a laboratory. This also included 61 deaths.

    This is really a scary situation. If it takes 2 to 21 days to show symtoms and it’s near an airport the chances of it spreading world wide are a real possibility. I would think they would close down that airport until this is over.

  2. To successfully containt an outbreak or epidemy, there should be a political commitment and the community involvement. Therefore, we need to educate the community to actively participate in the fight by giving them a case definition to promote reporting of new suspected cases and improve on prevention strategies. Knowledge, resources and practice will be highly recommended in risk management. JP
